Rania Ali

Rania Ali is a Syrian journalist, filmmaker, public speaker, and human rights defender who has gained recognition for her significant contributions in documenting the Syrian refugee crisis and the challenges faced by those displaced by the conflict. 
 
Ali began her journalism career as a freelance reporter, covering the ongoing conflict in Syria and documenting human rights violations in her hometown of Raqqa. In 2016, Ali filmed the short documentary, "Escape from Syria: Rania's Odyssey," which chronicled her journey from Syria to Europe. The film gained significant recognition and brought attention to the plight of refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict. 
 
Ali has since continued to work as a journalist and filmmaker, covering the refugee crisis and other humanitarian issues. She has worked with governments, advocating for projects and funding to safeguard human rights defenders. As a public speaker, Ali has addressed various forums and platforms, including TEDx, Nobel Peace Center, European Parliament, European Council, and UK Parliament, amongst others, to raise awareness of the situation in Syria and the need for international support. 
 
Ali has also worked with international organisations such as Amnesty International, the United Nations, UN affiliated organisations, Terre Des Hommes, Council of Europe, IFOUND, and others as a project manager, multimedia strategy expert and campaigner. She has worked with the Guardian, BBC, and other media outlets as a film maker and writer. She is also a trained mediator. 
 
Rania Ali's work has earned her numerous awards, including the Webby Award in 2018, Vienna person of the year, and the Tolerance Award, amongst others. She holds a degree in International Relations and Development studies. Currently, Ali serves as the Communications and External Relations Manager of Madaniya and Communications Officer of The Asfari Foundation, while expanding her work as a freelance filmmaker and her experience in peace-building.
