Rethinking Early Recovery in Syria
Roundtable Discussion
The discourse surrounding early recovery in Syria is at a crossroads, fraught with challenges and critical shortcomings. As we convene to discuss the future of early recovery in Syria, it is imperative to confront these systemic challenges and chart a new course towards a genuine principled and inclusive approach. Syrian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), with their deep-rooted understanding of local dynamics and needs, must be central to any consequential efforts. In this roundtable discussion, organised by Madaniya, Syrian Charities and Associations Network in UK (SCAN UK), Syria Resource Group (SRG)
along with the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) we critically examined the current landscape of early recovery in Syria, identifying key challenges and opportunities for meaningful change. Syrian delegates will offer insights into a principled approach to early recovery, highlighting key pillars and thematic examples on how to do so. The discussion delved into risks and challenges, including the problematic aspects of the recent OCHA’s Syria Early Recovery Strategy and the politicization of its proposed Trust Fund.
