Abdulrahaman Alhaj
Abdulrahman Al Haj is a professor and scholar whose work is focused on the relationship between religion, society and politics. He is a researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) in Doha and serves as the General Manager of the ACRPS’s Syrian Memory Institution, a research unit focused on National History Archives, particularly of Syria's recent history post-2011.
Mr. Al Haj is a former advisor to the President of the Syrian Interim Government for Education, and a founding member of the Syrian National Council. He worked on building administrative educational structures in areas outside the Syrian regime’s control following the collapse and withdrawal of state institutions in those areas between 2013 and 2014. He worked on achieving widespread recognition for the Secondary Certificate issued by the Interim Government and launched the project to open the Free University of Aleppo in 2015 offering higher education to students in non-regime-held areas including in Daraa, Rural Damascus, Idlib, and Aleppo. The University currently provides educational services to more than 12,000 students.
