Bahjat Hajjar

Bahjat Hajjar is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Local Administration Councils Unit (LACU), a renowned Syrian NGO promoting good governance practices for Syrian Local Councils. LACU's principal emphasis is on strengthening these councils' capacities, improving their internal processes, and providing them with the resources they need to serve their constituents as effectively as possible.

Prior to assuming his present role with LACU, Mr. Hajjar consulted for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA) as an expert on local administration matters for Syria. He further worked in coordinating Shelter and Relief efforts with local initiatives in Damascus between 2011 to 2013.  

Mr. Hajjar is a graduate of the University of Damascus with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
