Meeting the UN Special Envoy for Syria

Madaniya coordinated a meeting held on November 16 with the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, and his team at the United Nations building in Geneva to introduce Madaniya and provide updates on its work since the launch. Madaniya’s delegation addressed the futility of the step-by-step approach. In the same context, it was pointed out that Syrians demanding political change in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254 were absent from the political process. Meanwhile, regional and international powers sought gains without considering the interests of the Syrians themselves.

Madaniya also stressed that Syrian civil society was the first to work towards ensuring the stability of the Syrians’ reality within the current context. Additionally, there was an emphasis on the need to develop a clearly defined initiative by the Office of the Special Envoy to activate the political process. This initiative should guarantee the acceptance of Syrians.

The meeting concluded with the UN envoy affirming his desire to work jointly and communicate systematically with Madaniya.
